What international competitions are organized under the leadership of SCA?

The Specialty Coffee Organization (SCA) organizes 7 types of annual competitions under its auspices, which we will discuss in this article. They are all aimed at popularizing specialty coffee in the world and developing coffee-related professions.
   1. World Barista Championship.
Baristas from around the world compete to create exceptional drinks. They demonstrate their skills in espresso making, milk texturing and creative presentation, aiming to impress the judges with their technique, creativity, coffee knowledge and the quality of the beans they choose to make it.
   2. World Championship in making cocktails based on coffee and spirits.
Mixologists combine coffee with spirits to create innovative and delicious coffee cocktails. They demonstrate their skills, creativity and experience in mixing coffee with alcohol and other substances to create unique "degree" cocktails.
    3. Filter coffee cup.
Participants demonstrate precision and skill in preparing filter coffee using the manual method (pourover, drip, V60, Kalita Wave, siphon, Chemex, or others).
    4. Privateer World Cup.
Cap testers determine the taste and aroma of coffee in sensory tasks with multiple coffee bean lots and ready-to-drink beverages. Participants must distinguish between different coffee varieties during a blind tasting, demonstrating their taste and sensory skills by identifying the characteristics of the coffee varieties.
    5. World Roasting Championship. Roasters compete to produce the perfect roast, based on type and other qualities.
They demonstrate their expertise in selecting the roast profile of green coffee beans to enhance their unique flavor and aroma, striving for consistency, balance, and perfection.
    6. World Latte Art Championship. Participants create patterns using frothed milk and espresso. They demonstrate their creativity, precision and technical skills in pouring and shaping the milk foam, creating aesthetically pleasing patterns on the surface.
    7. World Coffee Making Championship in Ibrik/Jezve. Participants brew traditional Turkish coffee in a cezve (coffee pot). They demonstrate their mastery of the centuries-old brewing method, controlling the temperature and brewing time to achieve the rich flavor and aroma of traditional coffee.
These 7 competitions are some of the most prestigious in the world of coffee. But of course, our world would not be the same without competition. And that means that there are also other competitions organized by competing coffee organizations on the planet, for example:
    1) World Barista Championship (WBC) by World Coffee Events (WCE).
   2) Cup of Excellence by Alliance for Coffee Excellence.
   3) Aeropress Championship (organized by various organizations and enthusiasts).
   4) Coffee Roasters Guild Competition.
   5) Nordic Roasters Competition (by Nordic Roaster Forum).
In addition to the USC World Series, there are also regional competitions and events organized by the Organization's branches:
   I. US Coffee Championship (organized by the USC American office). It combines several disciplines in one competition: barista skills, manual brewing, roasting and tasting.
II. Australian Specialty Coffee Association Championship (format is quite similar to the American version).
   III. Brazilian Barista Championship.
   IV. Korean Barista Championship.
   V. Japanese Barista Championship.
VI. New Zealand Coffee Championship (format like the American + latte art competition).
VII. South African National Barista Championship.
There are actually a lot of regional competitions, and it makes no sense to list all the countries that hold their events on an annual or other basis. By the way, the vast majority of competitions and cups are organized annually; a much smaller number of them are held with a different frequency (for example, once every 6 months or 2 years).
In any case, if we count all the global and local competitions organized under the auspices or control of the USC, it turns out that this organization is the world champion in terms of their number.
Which means that it is doing an excellent job of popularizing specialty coffee in the world.
